About Dravidian University
Dravidian University was established by the Andhra Pradesh government with the help of a legislative act in the year October, 1997. The support for the foundation of the university also came from southern states involving Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. With the focus on conducting research and study in the ancient languages such as Telgu, Tamil, Malyalam, Kannada, Tulu and English the university has created a benchmark of its own. The location of the university is at a triangular junction between the three states namely Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerela, which is less than 10 kms. from each. The objective of the university is to cultivate and maintain oneness among the Dravidian speakers.
Dravidian civilization being one of the oldest civilizations in the world, the languages spoken in the same gives a clear picture of the culture which it beholds. Archeologists have found many languages spoken across the globe which have words synonymous to those spoken during Dravidian time, which in turn gives an indication for it to be the mother of all civilizations. With the help of tools such as research, lectures, translations and publications the universities main objectives proves to be the inculcation of the spirit of nation unity. In an attempt to achieve this objective the university runs with 17 departments with 6 centers currently, offering 24 courses both at under graduate and post graduate level. The curriculum development of the university was done with a five year integrated choice based credit system (ICBCS) in which an addition of soft skills enhancement training was done. This included areas such as analytical, computer, personality development, communication & career perspectives. Along with the above mentioned the Dravidian University centre has come up with an innovative educational program called the 21st century Gurukulam, also known as 21 C.G., which focuses on providing IT training and remedial education in turn providing a post graduate degree in information technology to the best amongst the rural youth. This initiative, thereby equips them with latest technological trends. The university believes in imparting knowledge by various ‘doing’ methods by conducting various activities such as discussions, presentations and seminars. The course content of the same is designed by the most reputed Carnegie Mellon university of United States. Dravidian University also runs a special incentive scheme for candidates seeking admission in the various courses offered by it. The university charges only Rs. 1 for the top three ranking girls and the top ranker selected through the common entrance test. In a similar manner a concession of 50% on the fees is also given to those seeking admission in the various professional courses. Professor C. Ramanai, the current vice chancellor of the university along with his team other faculty members is striving hard making every effort to provide quality education to its students in all the aspects of personality development and skillful knowledgebase. With such efforts the Dravidian University has created a name of its own in the field of languages which is incomparable to any other university in the nation.
